Wang Yi Holds Talks with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi

On April 2, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Nanping City, Fujian Province. Indonesian Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi, State-owned Enterprise Minister Eric Thohir, and Chinese Vice Commerce Minister Zhang Xiangchen, Vice Chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission Ren Hongbin and others attended the talks.

Wang Yi expressed, China and Indonesia are both representatives of large developing countries and emerging economies, and they share broad common interests and similar development concepts. Their timely strengthening strategic communication and deepening beneficial cooperation are not only of great significance to respective development of the two countries, but also exert a positive impact on the region and the world. China is willing to work with Indonesia to follow the directions set by the two heads of state, continue to deepen strategic alignment, strengthen practical cooperation, as well as coordination and cooperation in regional and international affairs, and contribute more to the stability and development of Asia and the world in the post-pandemic period.

Wang Yi said, China and Indonesia have jointly fought the COVID-19 and taken the lead in the world, setting a model for cooperation among developing countries. China is deepening vaccine cooperation with Indonesia, discussing mutual recognition of health code, thus contributing to the availability and affordability of vaccines in developing countries, and promoting the orderly exchange of personnel between the two sides. China hopes that Indonesia will actively support China's "Spring Sprout" program landing in Indonesia. The two sides should deepen the integration of the Belt and Road Initiative and the vision for the Global Maritime Fulcrum, accelerate the construction of large projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, expand trade, restart the engine of regional economic development, and strengthen cooperation in digital economy, big data, cloud computing, 5G, and smart city construction, injecting new impetus into the high-quality economic development of both parties. Both countries should advance cooperation in areas such as navigation security, maritime environmental protection, maritime search and rescue, and fisheries to deliver win-win results, and create bright spots for maritime cooperation. China wishes to discuss with Indonesia the establishment of a bilateral comprehensive economic partnership.

Wang Yi said, China is willing to work with ASEAN countries including Indonesia to put into effect the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership at an early date, and take the 30th anniversary of the establishment of dialogue relations between China and ASEAN as an opportunity to upgrade the China-ASEAN relations. China supports Indonesia in hosting the G20 Summit next year and will continue to maintain good cooperation with Indonesia under the framework of multilateral mechanisms to jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.

Retno said, Indonesia and China are both large developing countries. The two countries have always maintained close cooperation in various fields, and their relations are deepening despite the impact of the pandemic. Indonesia expects a closer cooperation on vaccines with China, jointly advances major projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway in the post-pandemic period, and expands cooperation in trade, investment, fishery, infrastructure construction and other fields. Indonesia is willing to negotiate comprehensive economic and trade cooperation arrangements with China and expects an early harvest. Indonesia supports the closer cooperation between ASEAN and China and is willing to work with China to host the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the ASEAN-China dialogue relationship. Indonesia appreciates China's support for hosting the G20 Summit, and supports China in hosting the Boao Forum for Asia.

The two sides also had an in-depth exchange of views on the international and regional situations of common concern, and agreed that, under the current situation, both countries should work together to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries and promote world peace, stability and prosperity. Both sides also coordinated their positions on the situation in Myanmar and agreed to encourage all parties in Myanmar to seek political solutions within the ASEAN framework in the ASEAN way and avoid interference in Myanmar's internal affairs. China supports Indonesia's initiative to convene a special meeting of ASEAN leaders in this regard.
