CIDCA| Updated: 2023-05-19

A launch event was held for the online journal International Development Cooperation: China's Practice by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) on May 18, 2023. Zhong Haidong, vice-chairman of the agency, attended the event and delivered a keynote speech. More than 100 representatives from the Center for International Knowledge on Development (CIKD) of China, relevant government departments, think tanks, and enterprises, as well as foreign diplomats and international organization representatives in China attended the event.

As Zhong introduced in his remarks, the online journal is the CIDCA's latest-launched platform for international communication, aiming to comprehensively introduce China's practice of foreign assistance and international development cooperation on its new journey in the new era. The first two issues pertain to China's international assistance for fighting COVID-19 and emergency humanitarian assistance. According to Zhong, after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, China launched the largest, longest and most extensive global humanitarian aid since the founding of the People's Republic of China, effectively helping other developing countries improve their capacity to fight against the pandemic and bridging the global immunity gap.

China has never been absent when the world faces various humanitarian disasters, Zhong said. China has consistently carried out emergency relief and post-disaster reconstruction after natural disasters, provided emergency food aid, and helped relevant countries contain the spread of major infectious diseases and deal with migrant and refugee crises. He said that the Chinese path to modernization offers a new choice to achieve modernization for humanity, and a new opportunity for China to join hands with other developing countries in responding to global challenges. China is ready to continue to jointly build the Belt and Road to a high standard, fully implement the Global Development Initiative (GDI), continue emergency humanitarian assistance, build more projects to improve people’s livelihoods, strengthen international communication and cooperation on foreign assistance, and work with all countries to contribute to the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, he said.

President of the CIKD Zhao Changwen, ambassadors to China from Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Syria, and the Republic of Congo, and the World Food Programme’s representative in China delivered speeches respectively, each acknowledging China's important and long-term contributions to global development, and lauded China's achievements in COVID-19 and emergency humanitarian assistance. The foreign guests pledged to continue to strengthen cooperation with China, jointly promote the Belt and Road Initiative and the GDI for a better future of mankind.
