Beijing hosted the third High-Level Meeting of the Global Shared Development Action Forum on Wednesday. The China International Development Cooperation Agency says it focused on scaling up cooperation in emerging sectors and translating this into concrete results. Our reporter Cen Ziyuan has more.

China says it has used Wednesday's high-level conference to work with all parties to advance a more equitable and inclusive global governance system and to inject sustained momentum into global development.

WANG YI Chinese Foreign Minister, Member, Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee "The Global Development Initiative has so far mobilized more than 23 billion US dollars in funding and launched over 1,800 cooperation projects. Through the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, China has also worked with more than 20 international organizations to implement over 100 joint projects across more than 50 countries."

The China International Development Cooperation Agency hosted the third high-level conference of the Global Shared Development Action Forum in Beijing, attracting officials and representatives from more than 23 countries.

DANIEL CHAPO President of Mozambique "It is becoming increasingly clear that development cannot be treated as secondary on the global agenda. It underpins peace and stability, protects sovereignty, and upholds human dignity. Without it, there can be no lasting peace, no true inclusiveness, and no sustainable future."

CEN ZIYUAN Beijing "Experts say recent policy shifts in Washington, including the shutdown of the United States Agency for International Development, withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, and disengagement from institutions like the World Health Organization, have contributed to a decline in global development assistance. In this context, aid is increasingly seen not as a cornerstone of international engagement, but as a tool shaped by geopolitical and economic priorities. With ongoing conflicts and the growing urgency of climate change, officials say the call for cooperation must go beyond rhetoric and translate into concrete, coordinated action."

SOPHIE MULLER UNHCR Representative in China "We know that the world is lagging in the implementation of the SDGs. It is good to hear from China that the vision is to consolidate their implementation."

In this context, China's Global Development Initiative is drawing attention for its focus on long-term stability and implementation.

YAO SHUAI Senior research fellow, Chinese Academy of Intl. Trade and Economic Cooperation "This sense of stability and predictability stems from China's long-standing, consistent commitment — rather than being a short-term response to current international challenges."

With challenges mounting worldwide, participants say the focus now is on turning commitments into action and ensuring development remains at the center of the global agenda.
