CIDCA vice-chairman addresses Workshop on High-Quality Development of Maritime Economy

The opening ceremony of the Workshop on the High-Quality Development of Maritime Economy, a program under the China Practice Training Series of United Nations Sustainable Development, was held on Aug 4 in Beijing.

Hu Zhangliang, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Cheng Hu, vice-president of the Academy for International Business Officials affiliated to the Ministry of Commerce, and Lei Pili, deputy director-general of the CIDCA's Global Development Promotion Center (GDPC), also attended the ceremony.

Stressing that the ocean is the cradle of life and a bond connecting all countries worldwide, Hu said China has deeply engaged in global ocean governance, as well as international cooperation on marine conservation. Hu added that China has supported developing countries in advancing the blue economy and has ramped up marine ecological protection and restoration efforts, contributing its wisdom and strength to the synergy of the Global South in promoting high-quality development of the marine economy.

He emphasized that under the framework of the Global Development Initiative, China will continue to deepen cooperation with all countries to jointly build a maritime community with a shared future.

Philbert Aaron, permanent representative of the Commonwealth of Dominica to the UN, expressed gratitude to China for organizing this workshop and said that Dominica is ready to deepen marine development cooperation with China to bring greater benefits to the people of both countries.

Ibrahim F. Jimoh, permanent representative of Nigeria to the UN, commended China's contribution to advancing the development of the blue economy and called on all parties to work together to build oceans of prosperity.

The workshop, designed and initiated by the CIDCA and undertaken by the GDPC, has drawn the attendance of 23 ministerial and department-level officials from 17 countries, including Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Nigeria, and Trinidad and Tobago.
