The Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDSSCF) was established by the Chinese government to advance the implementation of the Global Development Initiative and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It aims to meet the needs of developing countries in crucial development areas, including poverty alleviation, food security, public health and the response to climate change.
The GDSSCF-Red Sea State Poverty Alleviation and Agricultural Support Project in Sudan was officially launched in May 2025 in the Sudanese port city of Suakin. In partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the Chinese government provides support to Sudan's Red Sea State through the GDSSCF. The project focuses on emergency relief and capacity building for long-term development, benefiting over 8,000 farming households.
