Wang Yi meets with Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali of Nepal

On July 3, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali of Nepal.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Nepal are friendly neighboring countries linked by mountains and rivers. The leaders of the two countries have charted the course for the development of bilateral relations. Both sides need to work together to well implement the consensus of the leaders of the two countries to push China-Nepal relations to progress with the times and reach new levels.

Wang Yi pointed out that the Chinese side praises the Nepali side's adherence to following a friendly policy towards China, supports Nepal in finding a development path that suits its own national conditions and improving the well-being of its people and supports the Nepali side in safeguarding sovereignty and independence and promoting prosperity and development. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Nepali side to take the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative as an opportunity to explore the building of a three-dimensional connectivity network across the Himalayas as well as enhance practical cooperation in various fields. The Chinese side is willing to join hands with the Nepali side to safeguard multilateralism and the common interests of developing countries, in a bid to propel the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Congratulating China on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said that Nepal and China enjoy a time-honored friendship and share solid foundation for bilateral relations. Nepal resolutely pursues the one-China policy and will never allow any force to engage in anti-China activities in Nepal's territory. The Nepali side highly recognizes the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind put forth by President Xi Jinping and speaks positively of and expects China's even greater role in setting international agenda. Regarding China as the most important partner in realizing sustainable development, Nepal is willing to make concerted efforts with the Chinese side to further deepen comprehensive cooperative partnership, reinforce high-level exchanges, jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative, intensify communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, as well as safeguard multilateralism, fairness and justice, so as to advance bilateral relations for greater development in the new era.

Both sides also exchanged views on intensifying bilateral high-level exchanges and issues of common concern.
