On September 26, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi said, the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and El Salvador has opened a new chapter for the development of bilateral relations. The establishment of diplomatic relations between China and El Salvador is an independent decision made by the two sovereign countries and fully conforms to the fundamental and long-term interests of the two countries and their people. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, cooperation between the two countries in various fields has developed rapidly. Just as newborns need the care and protection of their families, China-El Salvador relations also need the care and promotion from various circles of the two countries. The Chinese side is willing to work with the El Salvadoran side to maintain and develop bilateral relations. As a large market with a population of 1.4 billion, China is opening wider to the outside world. China welcomes the El Salvadoran side's participation in the 2nd China International Import Expo, so that more products of El Salvador will be introduced to China. The Chinese side will make joint efforts with the El Salvadoran side to promote the early implementation of relevant cooperation projects and is willing to provide assistance for El Salvador's development within its capacity.

Nayib Bukele said, China is a major country with a time-honored history and a strong economy. The establishment of diplomatic relations between El Salvador and China will fully release the development potential of El Salvador and open up broad space for China-El Salvador cooperation. The El Salvadoran side expects to continuously strengthen and expand cooperation with the Chinese side to obtain substantial fruits as soon as possible so that the people of two countries can benefit from it. As today's world is facing the fourth industrial revolution, the El Salvadoran side hopes to learn development experience from China and cooperate with the Chinese side in high-tech fields like Internet economy. El Salvador-China relations will not affect El Salvador's relations with other countries.
