Wang Yi attends Forum on 20th Anniversary of Juncao Assistance and Sustainable Development Cooperation

State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the Forum on the 20th Anniversary of Juncao Assistance and Sustainable Development Cooperation on Sept 2.

Wang read a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping and also made remarks at the forum.

Wang said Juncao technology is a successful practice that China has used to promote poverty alleviation. It is also an important contribution by China to global sustainable development. While working in Fujian province 20 years ago, Xi personally pushed for the implementation of Juncao technology assistance in Papua New Guinea. Over the past 20 years, Juncao technology has taken root in more than 100 countries, creating hundreds of thousands of green jobs for young people and women and playing a significant role in promoting economic and social undertakings.

International cooperation related to Juncao technology reflects China's commitment to enhancing South-South cooperation and attaining common development and prosperity along with other developing countries, Wang said.

China will fully leverage Juncao's high adaptability and practicality, low cost and high efficiency and its ability to prevent desertification, stabilize sand and improve soil quality, and continue to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and make Juncao a "grass of happiness" and "grass of prosperity" for more people in developing countries, Wang said.

 "True development is development for all and good development is sustainable," Wang quoted Xi as saying.

Wang added that China will continue to promote international cooperation against COVID-19, enhance international cooperation related to development and fulfill its international responsibilities and obligations, and continue to deliver on its commitment and responsibility with concrete action, as well as do its best to help more developing countries realize sustainable development and work together for a community with a shared future for mankind.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sent a congratulatory message to the forum. Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea James Marape, President of the Central African Republic Faustin Archange Touadera, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Imran Khan, Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Phankham Viphavanh and Secretary-General of Pacific Islands Forum Henry Puna sent personal video messages.

Lin Zhanxi, inventor of Juncao technology and a professor at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, introduced the latest developments in Juncao technology.

The forum was hosted by Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA). 

The ambassadors of participating countries visited the 20th anniversary of Juncao aid exhibition together with Zhou Liujun and Deng Boqing, vice-chairmen of the CIDCA, Liu Jianchao, deputy director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, Qian Keming, vice-minister of commerce, Ma Youxiang, vice-minister of agriculture and rural affairs, Peng Youdong, deputy head of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and Guo Ningning, vice-governor of Fujian.

The forum was jointly organized by the CIDCA and the provincial government of Fujian. More than 150 representatives attended the event, including representatives of relevant Chinese government departments, as well as more than 60 ambassadors to China and representatives of international organizations in China, representatives of relevant provinces and cities, and representatives from the Juncao industry.
