The first project of the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund targeted at aid for Pakistan was launched on Nov 28, 2017 in Islamabad. Representatives from China, Pakistan and the World Food Programme (WFP) were in attendance.
According to the project, China intends to provide $1 million to the WFP in emergency humanitarian aid in Federally Administered Tribal Areas in Pakistan. The aid is to be used to provide food and nourishment to children and pregnant and lactating women. It is expected to benefit 160 thousand residents.
Yao Jing, the Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, said that the purpose of the South-South cooperation assistance fund is to implement the Union Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development and help developing countries. It is a measure of China's willingness to take international responsibility, support developing countries and build a community of shared future.
The representative of Pakistan thanked China for its long-term help, and thought that the first project of the South-South cooperation assistance fund will impact Pakistan's people's livelihoods.
