Zhou Liujun, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Zhao Houlin, secretary-general of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), who was in China to exchange views on strengthening bilateral cooperation in international development, on Dec 12.
Zhao said that the ITU, as the UN's professional agency responsible for telecommunications, mainly provides assistance to developing countries. The ITU is willing to strengthen cooperation with the CIDCA to bridge the digital divide, meet the strong demand of developing countries for telecommunication technology services, and improve their weak areas in the telecommunications industry.
Zhou congratulated Zhao on his re-election as the secretary-general of the ITU. Zhou said that the development of the telecommunications field is closely related to the construction of a community of a shared future for mankind. China is willing to strengthen cooperation with international organizations including the ITU to innovate South-South cooperation based on the needs of recipient countries.
