Zhang Maoyu, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Takeshi Kasai, the World Health Organization (WHO) regional director for the Western Pacific, in Beijing on Feb 15.
Takeshi Kasai said that China is an important member and partner of WHO and plays an important role in global public health affairs. China was the first country helping WHO in public health crises such as the Ebola outbreak, and has sent medical aid teams to the most remote and impoverished areas of the world such as Africa and Pacific island countries.
WHO is committed to fully supporting the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, and will strengthen cooperation with CIDCA to jointly promote the cooperation between China and WHO.
Zhang said that since the establishment of CIDCA, it has been cooperating well with WHO in the areas of combating cholera and Ebola outbreaks, refugee relief and humanitarian assistance. The Chinese side is satisfied with the cooperation with WHO and is willing to strengthen the cooperation, enhance communication and learn from each other.
