China-aided satellite TV project completed in Ghana

The China-aided “Access to satellite TV for 10000 African villages” project in Ghana was completed on May 10, and 300 remote villages in the West African country have since bid farewell to a history of no satellite TV.

“Access to satellite TV for 10000 African villages” project, a Chinese government funded project which aims to help residents of more than 10,000 villages in Africa watch satellite TV programs, is one of the China-Africa humanities cooperation initiatives proposed at the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in 2015.

"Now, people in Ghana's remote villages can see clear and informative TV shows on satellite TV. Many children also enjoy better educational resources through satellite TV,” Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Wang Shiting said at the handing over ceremony of the project.

George Andah, deputy minister of communications of Ghana, said at the ceremony that 660 Ghanaians have been trained in satellite TV installation technology through this project, which will help them to start their own businesses in the future.

This project was undertaken by China's StarTimes Software Technology Co., Ltd. The Chinese contractor will also be responsible for follow-up operation and maintenance and the training of local employees in Ghana in the next five years.
