Zhang Maoyu, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Fekitamoeloa Katoa ‘Utoikamanu, the UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States, on May 31. They exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in the field of international development.
‘Utoikamanu said that China has long supported the development of countries in special situations. In recent years, through the eight major initiatives of China-Africa cooperation and the establishment of South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund, the welfare of vulnerable people in developing countries has been enhanced.
The United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and the Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) is willing to deepen cooperation with the CIDCA, ‘Utoikamanu said.
Zhang said that China is a staunch supporter and active promoter of the development of countries with a special situation. China's foreign aid starts from the "special situation" of these countries and provides them with infrastructure, capacity building and debt relief under the framework of South-South cooperation, and will continue to help these countries.
The CIDCA is willing to strengthen cooperation with the UN-OHRLLS to jointly promote the implementation of the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
