Xi Jinping meets with Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission Kim Jong Un of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)

On June 21, 2019 local time, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and President Xi Jinping met with Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission Kim Jong Un of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at the Kumsusan Guesthouse.

Xi Jinping expressed his sincere thanks to the DPRK side for the warm reception and thoughtful arrangement on behalf of the CPC, the Chinese government and the people. Xi Jinping pointed out that the whole visit was immersed in a warm atmosphere of China-DPRK friendship, which demonstrated the profound friendship between the two Parties and the two countries. The visit is a complete success as it has reinforced the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK, charted the course for the development of bilateral relations in the new era as well as showcased the resolute will of China and the DPRK to the world in pushing for the political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue and in realizing lasting peace and prosperity in the region.

Xi Jinping stressed that the visit has realized not only the historical exchange of visits by the top leaders of the two Parties and countries in such an important year as the one that marks the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and the DPRK, but also the 5th gathering between the top leaders of the two Parties and countries in 15 months. These are the vivid manifestations of the vitality of the traditional friendship between the two countries. It is hoped that both sides will make concerted efforts to well implement the consensus both sides have reached and translate the blueprint of China-DPRK relations in the new era into reality step by step.

Xi Jinping emphasized that no matter how the international landscape may evolve, the Chinese side will always firmly support the DPRK's socialist cause, resolutely support the DPRK side in implementing the new strategic line and unswervingly support the DPRK's efforts in political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue and in realizing peace and stability on the Peninsula.

Kim Jong Un expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Chinese side for supporting the WPK in leading the DPRK people to follow the path of socialism and for the precious support. He said that the DPRK-China friendship enjoys a long history and solid foundation. At present, with intensified interactions and friendly cooperation, the two countries are like one family. I am willing to follow the lofty will of the older generations of leaders to work with Comrade General Secretary to carry forward and develop the friendly relations at the new starting point in history and continue the even more splendid future of bilateral friendship. Kim Jong Un also congratulated Xi Jinping on his successful visit.

Xi Jinping's wife Peng Liyuan and Kim Jong Un's wife Ri Sol Ju were present.

Prior to the meeting, Xi Jinping and his wife, together with Kim Jong Un and his wife, talked to each other while strolling in the garden. Near the lake in the picturesque Kumsusan Guesthouse, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un had warm exchanges of views on issues of common concern such as strengthening the traditional friendship as they walked in a relaxing and friendly atmosphere.

After the meeting, Kim Jong Un and his wife held a luncheon for Xi Jinping and his wife.
