CIDCA| Updated: 2019-09-23

The handover ceremony of the first food aid provided by the Chinese government to South Sudan was held on Sept 2.

The Chinese ambassador to South Sudan, Hua Ning, and the Hon. Martin Elia Lomuro, Cabinet Minister and Secretary of the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC), attended the ceremony.

Hua said that the South Sudan peace process has entered a critical juncture, and that the Chinese government and people sincerely hope that South Sudan will restore peace and stability at an early date. He added that China decided to take the lead in providing material assistance for the construction of cantonments in South Sudan.

On behalf of the South Sudanese government and the NPTC, Lomulo thanked the Chinese government and people for their valuable support and stressed that China's assistance will greatly promote the South Sudan peace process.

The South Sudanese government has developed a detailed distribution plan to ensure the proper and effective use of the materials, according to Lomulo.
