Burundi Vice President Butore meets with Wang Yi

On Jan 11, Burundi Vice President Joseph Butore met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Bujumbura.

Butore spoke highly of the relations between the two countries, saying that although we are far apart, our relationship is like a brotherly friendship. In recent years, the relationship between Burundi and China has maintained a high level. The two countries have close high-level exchanges and fruitful cooperation in various fields. No matter how the domestic situation changes in Burundi, the policy of friendship towards China will never change. Burundi thanks China for its great help to the development of Burundi, and thanks the Chinese side for defending its rights in the international arena. It will also continue to give firm support to China on issues related to China's core interests and major concerns. Burundi is willing to learn from China's successful experience in economic and social development and governing the country, strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the ruling parties of the two countries, and deepen the cooperation in agriculture, education, health and other fields. The two sides should closely communicate and coordinate with each other on the United Nations and other multilateral affairs, so as to add more connotations to the relations between the two countries.

Wang Yi said that Burundi is a reliable and sincere friend. China has always advocated equality among all countries, large and small, and highly appreciates the firm adherence of Burundi to its friendly policy towards China. Friends should support and help each other. China firmly supports Burundi to safeguard national independence, sovereignty and national dignity, safeguard their own legitimate rights and interests, support Burundi to find out a road of development in line with its own national conditions. No matter how the international situation changes, China will be a good friend, good partner and good brother of Burundi.

Wang Yi said, the high level of mutual trust between China and Burundi has provided an important driving force for practical cooperation between the two countries. The Chinese side is willing to learn from each other in governing the country. China will help Burundi as much as it can. China is willing to take agricultural cooperation as a starting point, help Burundi strengthen the internal motive force and sustainable development. The two sides should also strengthen communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, safeguard the common interests of developing countries, safeguard multilateralism and uphod fairness and justice.

On the same day, Wang Yi also held talks with Burundi Foreign Minister Ezechiel Nibigira.
