Wang Yi Meets with Kenyan Foreign Minister Juma

On Jan 10, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Kenyan Foreign Minister Monica Juma during a stopover in Mombasa, Kenya. 

Wang Yi said, China regards Kenya as a trusted and sincere friend and partner, and has always viewed and developed relations between the two countries from a strategic and long-term perspective. With the personal care of President Xi Jinping and President Kenyatta, China and Kenya comprehensive strategic partnership has developed rapidly. The successful operation of the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway has become a symbol of China-Kenya friendship and a benchmark for building the "Belt and Road Initiative" together. China is willing to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, including expanding exports of Kenyan agricultural products to China. China supports Kenya to play a more important role in Africa's regional affairs, support Africans to solve African problems in an African way, and support the African continent to realize the vision of "silencing the guns" as soon as possible. China is willing to use the platform of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, to make contribution to the sustainable development and universal security for Kenya and African countries. China and Kenya have a tradition of mutual understanding and support in international and regional affairs. The two sides should further strengthen communication and cooperation, so as to jointly safeguard international fairness and justice.

Juma said, Kenya is willing to work with China to implement the consensus of the two leaders, expand and deepen pragmatic cooperation, accelerate the joint construction of the "Belt and Road Initiative", and push Kenya-China comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level. Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway is a mutually beneficial and win-win project with highly efficient and smooth operation, and has become the most important mode of transportation in Kenya. Kenya thanks China for its long-term help and support for Kenya's economic and social development, and appreciates China's constructive role in promoting peaceful development in Africa.

On the same day, Wang Yi also inspected the construction and operation of the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway.
