Chinese medical supplies arrived in Yangon, Myanmar, on March 27, to help the country in its battle against the COVID-19 outbreak.

Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Chen Hai handed over the medical supplies to Zaw Than Htun, director general of the medical research department under the Ministry of Health and Sports.

Chen said as a neighbor connected by mountains and rivers, Myanmar donated rice and other materials to China in its hardest time fighting the pandemic. China will similarly keep providing assistance to Myanmar during its battle against COVID-19.

The first batch of testing kits and masks provided by China arrived in Myanmar on March 18 and were immediately put into use. The Chinese embassy is actively coordinating with domestic medical experts to come to Myanmar and help with pandemic prevention and control, said Chen.
Zaw Than Htun expressed thanks for the donation of protective equipment that are urgently needed for Myanmar’s fight against COVID-19.

There is no specific cure for COVID-19. Myanmar can learn a lot from China’s experience, and hopes to carry out further cooperation with China in the future, said Zaw Than Htun.

Myanmar has reported five confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country so far, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports on March 27.
