Venezuela grants Chinese medical experts Order of Francisco de Miranda

Eight Chinese medical experts were awarded the second class of the Order of Francisco de Miranda by the Venezuelan government for their outstanding contribution to Venezuela’s battle against the virus.

The experts left Caracas on April 11 after completing their mission of helping Venezuela fight the COVID-19.

Venezuelan Vice-President Delcy Rodriguez, Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza, Economy and Finance Minister Simon Zerpa and Health Minister Carlos Humberto Alvarado Gonzalez attended the ceremony. Chinese Ambassador to Venezuela Li Baorong was also present.

Rodriguez thanked the experts for sharing China's anti-pandemic experience without reservation and said that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro confirmed the awarding of the Order to the Chinese experts, which demonstrates the Venezuelan government and people’s profound friendship with the experts.

Li said that as the virus is spreading in the world, the international community needs to work together with firm confidence. The peoples of China and Venezuela have deep friendship towards each other. China highly praises the Venezuelan government’s effective measures in pandemic prevention and control, firmly supports Venezuela’s fight against the virus and will carry out further anti-pandemic cooperation with Venezuela to build a community of shared future for mankind.

Huang Mao, head of the Chinese expert team, said that the team carried out in-depth discussions and exchanges with their Venezuelan counterparts regarding pandemic prevention and control, quarantine management, and treatment and nursing of patients in critical conditions.

The measures adopted by Venezuela have effectively prevented the further spreading of the virus and protected its people’s health and safety, said Huang, adding that the virus is the common enemy of humanity and China and Venezuela will work together to overcome the difficulties and defeat the virus at an early date.

The eight-member Chinese expert team, organized by the National Health Commission of China, arrived in Venezuela on March 30. Its members came from Jiangsu province with expertise in respiratory and intensive care, infectious disease control, laboratory testing, nursing, hospital infection control and traditional Chinese medicine.
