Peng Jingtao, the Chinese ambassador to Benin, and Benin’s Foreign Minister Aurelien Agbenonci and Health Minister Benjamin Hounkpatin attended the ceremony.

Peng pointed out that during the period of pandemic prevention and control, the Chinese government has always attached great importance to the health and safety of foreigners in China, treating all foreigners equally, opposing any discriminatory practices targeting specific groups of people, and having zero tolerance for discriminatory words and deeds. African friends in China can fully trust the Chinese government's policies and capabilities of pandemic prevention and control in that regard.

China has provided support to Benin in fighting the pandemic in various ways and is ready to continue to provide assistance and support within its capacity. Benin’s government has introduced a number of strong and effective prevention and control measures. It is believed that under the leadership of President Patrice Guillaume Athanase Talon, Benin can win the battle against the virus, Peng said.

Peng thanked the Office of the World Food Program in Benin for providing logistics support for delivery of the medical supplies.

Agbénonci said that President Talon is grateful for China's support. Benin will make full use of the medical supplies to protect medical workers working on the front line.

Hounkpatin said that Benin’s government and people deeply appreciate China for providing a lot of assistance and technical guidance when Benin is in urgent need. The aid will greatly improve Benin’s capability in pandemic prevention.
