Chinese medical supplies arrive in Togo to help fight COVID-19

The handover ceremony of the Chinese government's aid to Togo to combat the COVID-19 pandemic was held at the Togolese Ministry of Health on April 22, with Chinese Ambassador to Togo Chao Weidong and Togolese Minister of Health Moustafa Mijiyawa in attendance.

Chao said that in the face of this global challenge, the international community needs to uphold the idea of a community of shared future for mankind, and to work together in solidarity. As the traditional friendship between China and Togo goes back a long way, China is ready to work with many parties to overcome the current pandemic prevention and control pressure in Togo.

The medical materials donated by the Chinese government is expected to provide strong help in Togo’s fight against the pandemic. The Lomé Central Hospital, built with Chinese aid, was designated by the Togolese government as a designated hospital for the treatment of the pandemic.

China has held expert videoconferences with African countries, including Togo, and will continue to share its latest experience in epidemic prevention. Chinese enterprises, overseas Chinese and others have also volunteered to make donations. Chao went on to express his believe that, with the joint efforts of the two countries, China and Togo will be able to overcome the pandemic at an early date and safeguard the lives, health and safety of their people. 

Mijiyawa  spoke of China's achievements in pandemic prevention and control and the important role it has played in international cooperation in the fight against the pandemic, and expressed Togo’s sincere gratitude to the Chinese government for its emergency assistance at a critical time.

He said that the medical supplies from China will ease the pressure on many parties in terms of supplies and provide strong support to many parties as they fight the epidemic. The contribution by the Chinese side once again highlights the high level of friendly cooperation between China and Togo, and it is evident that China-Togo relations will continue to move forward for the betterment of both peoples. Many other countries will also continue to work closely with China to achieve a common victory in the fight against the pandemic.
