A handover ceremony of medical supplies donated by the Chinese government to Sierra Leone for fighting COVID-19 was held on April 21.
Hu Zhangliang, Chinese ambassador to Sierra Leone and Kellie Conteh, Sierra Leone's minister of defense as well as Sierra Leone's Minister of Health and Sanitation Alpha T. Wurie attended the ceremony.
Hu made remarks at the ceremony, appreciating the strength and solidarity that the people of Sierra Leone have shown in fighting against the novel coronavirus. The nation’s capability to curb the pandemic will be largely improved with Chinese assistance and donations from the Chinese embassy and communities.
The Chinese aid will not only help the nation combat the virus but also reflect the sincere friendship between China and Sierra Leone, as well as between China and Africa, added Hu.
Conteh, who is also the general coordinator of the nation’s pandemic prevention and control work, and Wurie appreciated the valuable assistance from China and praised China’s contribution to the world’s prevention and control of COVID-19 on behalf of the president and government of the country.
China and Africa as well as China and Sierra Leone are good brothers, said Conteh. China always does favors when the nation or other African countries need support.
Sierra Leone is willing to continue to work with China to win the victory against COVID-19, added Conteh.
Wurie thanked China for donating three batches of urgently needed medical supplies in a short period. He also spoke highly of the support from Chinese medical experts in curbing the pandemic.
A few people deliberately discrediting China's good deeds are unpopular, and they will never destroy the sincere friendship between Sierra Leone and China, said the chief medical officer of the country.
