Chinese medical experts leaves Myanmar after two-weeks of COVID-19 fight

Chinese medical experts departed for home from Myanmar after finishing their two-week’s work to help the country combat COVID-19.

Chen Hai, Chinese ambassador to Myanmar, and Zaw Than Htun, director general of Medical Research Department of the Ministry of Health and Sport of Myanmar saw the experts off at Yangon International Airport on April 22.

Myint Htwe, union minister for MoHS said parting words through a video call to the medical experts, appreciating their support to the country while it is facing challenges from the pandemic.

Myint Htwe said that the medical experts’ advices are very practical and useful and he expected the two nations to continue communication on similar areas.

China has donated a large amount of testing reagents which helped identify infected persons and isolate their close contacts. China has successfully broken the virus’ transmission chain in a short time and shared such experience to Myanmar selflessly. Myanmar will stop the chain too by following China’s lead, said Zaw Than Htun.

In the last half month, Chinese experts visited 43 medical institutions at Rangoon and Mandalay, and held more than 50 exchange activities. They shared experiences on respiration, infection, serious cases, nursing and other aspects with local medical workers, forming deep friendships with their Myanmar counterparts, according to Wang Yuezhou, a reporter of Central Radio and Television Station.

China has also donated a testing lab for Myanmar which largely improved its testing ability, said Wang.

Han Guangying, one of the medical experts, said that as a medical worker he felt honored to have fought against the pandemic with the Myanmar people, and he hopes Myanmar will win the fight against the virus at an early date.
