Medical supplies donated by the Chinese government to El Salvador to fight COVID-19 arrive at the international airport in San Salvador, El Salvador on April 22.

Medical supplies donated by the Chinese government to El Salvador to fight COVID-19 arrived at the international airport in San Salvador, El Salvador on April 22.

Ou Jianhong, Chinese ambassador to El Salvador, attended the handover ceremony at the airport with the country’s vice-minister of health and vice-minister of foreign affairs.

China pays attention to the development of its relationship with El Salvador, and bears in mind the strong support to China's pandemic prevention from the country’s government and people, said Ou.

The COVID-19 pandemic spreading around the world has pose huge pressure to El Salvador’s prevention and control work, added Ou. No country can be safe with only its own efforts. Only through solidarity can the infectious disease be curbed.

Based on the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, China overcame difficulties to donate within its ability medical supplies to El Salvador, which reflects the deep friendship between the two countries and their peoples, and their support from each to the other, said Ou.

She added that El Salvador will curb the pandemic under the strong leadership of its government and with the efforts of its people.

Both El Salvador‘s vice-minister of health and foreign affairs, on behalf of their government, sincerely appreciated the donations from China.

Since the virus outbreak in El Salvador, China has held two videoconferences to sharing Chinese COVID-19 prevention and control experience with local medical experts, said El Salvador’s vice-minister of health.

He added that Chinese medical experts selflessly shared their prevention and control experience as well as treatment and diagnosis schemes which are very helpful in curbing the pandemic in EI Salvador.

As the pandemic prevention is critical in EI Salvador, the donations from China have relieved the shortage of medical supplies in the country and will guarantee the safety of medical workers on the front line, which is important for the nation’s pandemic prevention and control.
