The handover ceremony of the first batch of medical supplies donated by the Chinese government to Namibia was held on April 23 at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek, the country’s capital.
Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Zhang Yiming, Namibian Health Minister Kalumbi Shangula and deputy minister of International Relations and Cooperation attended the ceremony.

The medical supplies included N95 masks, medical masks, protective clothing, goggles and infrared thermometers and will enhance Namibia’s anti-pandemic capability, while also demonstrating the long-lasting friendship between China and Namibia.
Only with solidarity and cooperation can the international community defeat the virus. China will continue to stand with its African friends, share its anti-pandemic experience and provide as much as assistance as possible within its ability.

Shangula said that the Namibian government applauds China’s containment of the virus with effective measures. The success achieved by China encourages Namibia and the international community and provides valuable anti-pandemic experience to the world.
On behalf of the Namibian government, Shangula thanked the Chinese government and Chinese enterprises for providing assistance, adding that the medical supplies will help Namibia expand testing areas, stem the spread of the virus in communities and lower infection risks faced by the medics.
The deputy minister of International Relations and Cooperation of Namibia also expressed gratitude to China for offering help and said China’s gesture to Namibia, made by a role model of international joint response to the pandemic, vividly demonstrates the friendly bilateral relations between the two countries.
