2nd shipment of Chinese medical supplies arrives in Egypt to help fight COVID-19

The Egyptian government received the second batch of Chinese donated medical supplies on May 10 in Egypt.

The medical supplies included masks, protective clothing and testing reagents. They will improve Egypt’s testing capabilities to some degree.

On behalf of the Chinese government, Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang handed over the medical supplies to the Egyptian government.

Wael al-Sa'ei, Egyptian assistant health minister for financial and administrative affairs, Han Bing, minister counselor for commercial affairs of the Chinese embassy in Egypt and Chinese Counselor Zhao Jixian were also present.

Liao said that this year’s Ramadan is unusual but heart-warming since the peoples of China and Egypt firmly stand together in the fight against the COVID-19. Having delivered the second batch of medical supplies to Egypt, China is now preparing a third shipment.

Noting that the 64th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries is around the corner on May 30, China once again shows its firm support to Egypt’s anti-pandemic work with concrete actions. It fully demonstrates the brotherly friendship between the two countries. China has always supported the economic and social development of Egypt and has actively mobilized all sectors of society from the central government to local governments and enterprises to help the Egyptian people fight the pandemic, added Liao.

Liao pointed out that the pandemic struck humanity with deep effect, showing that the building of a community with a shared future for mankind is the only right choice for the development of human society against the background of a globalized world with the destinies of all countries interwoven through thick and thin.

In this unprecedented war against the virus, China and Egypt have worked with each other and actively carried out anti-pandemic cooperation based on the concept of a community of shared future for mankind, said Liao, adding that with the joint efforts of the two countries Egypt will finally overcome the pandemic. China-Egypt relations will be comprehensively deepened in various fields such as political, economy and culture.

Wael al-Sa'ei said that the medical supplies donated by the Chinese government are a gift to Egypt that confirms the brotherly friendship of the peoples of the two countries. Egypt appreciates China’s friendship and stands ready to continue to enhance anti-pandemic experience-sharing and medical cooperation with China to defeat the virus and restore normal life and production at an early date.
