China sends more medical supplies to Cuba to help fight COVID-19

The handover ceremony of medical supplies donated by China was held on May 20 in Havana, capital of Cuba.

Chen reiterated that China will continue to strengthen anti-pandemic cooperation with Cuba and pointed out that during the key moment in fighting the COVID-19 the Chinese president delivered an important speech at the 73rd World Health Assembly. 

In the speech, the Chinese president expounded on China’s anti-pandemic response, shared China’s pandemic prevention and control experience with the world based on the concept of a community of health for all and announced China’s five major measures in supporting the global anti-pandemic cooperation. 

The speech demonstrates that China upholds the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind and points out the direction for international society in enhancing public health cooperation and improving a global health governance system. 

Chen added that Cuba has made effective achievements in  pandemic prevention and control with joint efforts of its government and people. He said he believes that under the strong leadership of the Cuban government, the people of Cuba will eventually defeat the virus. China is ready to take the opportunity of the 60th anniversary of the two countries diplomatic relations to continue to strengthen the bilateral cooperation in various fields and deepen the traditional friendship of the two countries. 

On behalf of the government and people of Cuba, Navarro thanked China for donating anti-pandemic supplies to Cuba and said that the supplies will improve Cuba’s pandemic prevention and control capability and help Cuba defeat the virus at an early date. 

Cuba highly hailed China’s effective anti-pandemic measures and mentioned that China’s enormous efforts not only successfully contained the pandemic domestically in a short time, but also bought precious time for global pandemic prevention and control. 

That China actively carries out international anti-pandemic cooperation fully demonstrates its role as a responsible major country. The speech made by the Chinese president shows China’s important role in global anti-pandemic response. Cuba firmly opposes some countries’ attempts to politicize and stigmatize the pandemic and calls on international society to continue to advance anti-pandemic cooperation with solidarity and coordination.
