Wang Yi meets with Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein

On October 13, 2020 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was paying an official visit to Malaysia, met with Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein in Kuala Lumpur.

Wang Yi said that China and Malaysia enjoy a deep traditional friendship and the bilateral relations maintain a momentum of steady progress amid the pandemic. As a trustworthy partner of Malaysia, China has always supported Malaysia in upholding its national sovereignty and legitimate interests, pursuing a development path that suits its own national conditions, and playing a greater role on the regional and international stages. The friendship between our peoples is unbreakable, so is the political foundation of our relations. China is confident in the prospects of the relations between the two countries.

Wang Yi said, China is willing to maintain the high-level exchanges and communication with Malaysia, continuously deepen the cooperation in COVID-19 response, and actively take Malaysia's demand for vaccines into consideration. China is willing to work with Malaysia to support the WHO, reject attempts to politicize the response and label the virus, and promote a community of common health for mankind. The two countries should boost cooperation in the post-pandemic period, formulate a list of China-Malaysia key projects for production capacity cooperation and the Five-year Development Program for Economic and Trade Cooperation according to the principle of promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, in order to improve the construction of institutional platforms, further increase cooperation and realize a win-win situation that benefits both sides. China will encourage its enterprises to increase the import of quality palm oil from Malaysia, increase their investment and actively participate in the construction of major projects in Malaysia based on market needs.

Wang Yi pointed out that China is willing to strengthen the anti-pandemic cooperation with ASEAN countries, including Malaysia, advance the arrangement of regional "fast lane" and "green lane" network, sign the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) within this year, and discuss the establishment of China-ASEAN economic partnership on blue economy to make plans for post-pandemic cooperation in the East Asia. China supports Malaysia in hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation 2020 meeting, developing the APEC Post-2020 Vision and facilitating the building of an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future. China is willing to join hands with Malaysia to uphold multilateralism, maintain the authority of the United Nations, safeguard the current international systems, oppose unilateralism and bullying, and inject more stability and positive energy into the region and the international community.

Hishammuddin said, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi is the first foreign minister that Malaysia has officially hosted since the COVID-19 outbreak. It fully reflects the close bond of the two countries. Their bilateral relations, which are built on a solid foundation, show strong resilience in the joint efforts of fighting against the pandemic. Malaysia expresses its heartfelt gratitude to China for its substantial support and assistance for the fight against the pandemic. It is willing to continuously strengthen the anti-pandemic cooperation with China, and jointly respond to the challenges in the post-pandemic period in particular. Malaysia appreciates China's support for its hosting the APEC 2020 Meeting, and is willing to deepen cooperation under the ambit of the Belt and Road Initiative with China based on mutual trust and benefit.

Both sides announced the establishment of the High-Level Committee on Malaysia-China Post Pandemic Cooperation chaired by the two foreign ministers, which aims to make plans of all-round cooperation in the post-pandemic period. Both sides agree to discuss the establishment of "fast lane" and "green lane" for the flow of people and goods, and "lifelines" for transportation of food supplies, facilitating the recovery of economic and social activities.

The two sides also had in-depth exchanges of views on international and regional issues of common interest and met with journalists together after the talks.
