China assists UNRWA with anti-pandemic materials

Guo Wei, director of the Office of the People's Republic of China to the State of Palestine, and Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner-general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), signed handover certificates of China’s anti-pandemic materials to the UNRWA via video link on Dec 2.

The materials will be distributed to the medical institutions under the UNRWA and to Palestinian refugees in Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria through the UNRWA in the form of health packs.

Guo said that in the face of the severe challenges imposed by the pandemic China has overcome the difficulties and actively implemented the initiatives and proposals it announced at the World Health Assembly, the United Nations General Assembly and the G20 Summit, and promptly provided assistance to Palestinian refugees and the UNRWA to advance the building of a global community of health for all. The country supports UN institutions and multilateralism, and upholds international fairness and justice.

China will continue to support the work of the UNRWA, provide assistance to Palestine in fighting the pandemic, and make positive contributions to the realization of peace in the Middle East, added Guo.

Lazzarini sincerely thanked the Chinese government for its long-term and firm support, highly appreciated China’s assistance in alleviating the UNRWA’s shortage of anti-pandemic supplies. He positively commented on the good partnership between the two sides, and said he expects to help Palestinian refugees tide over the pandemic through strengthening cooperation.
