Wang Yi Speaks with Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum on the Phone

On February 10, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum.

Wang Yi said, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the restoration of China's lawful seat at the United Nations, and the Chinese people will never forget Algeria's significant contribution to it. When the world is now undergoing profound changes unseen in a hundred years, China and Algeria need to cement and carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries more than ever before to jointly address all kinds of risks and challenges. China will continue, as in the past, to support Algeria in pursuing the development path suited to its national conditions, and firmly oppose the interference in its domestic affairs by any external forces.

Wang Yi said that the extensive and fruitful practical cooperation between China and Algeria has become an example of cooperation between developing countries. A number of landmark cooperation projects successfully implemented by the two sides have played an important role in Algeria's economic and social development. The two sides should continue to join hands to promote the Belt and Road Initiative, facilitate exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and further enrich the China-Algeria comprehensive strategic partnership. China attaches great importance to Algeria's need for COVID-19 vaccines and has decided to offer a batch of vaccines to Algeria and facilitate its vaccine procurement to address the country's urgent needs.

Sabri Boukadoum wishes the Chinese people a happy Lunar New Year, and hopes the bilateral relations will become closer and more substantive in the upcoming Year of the Ox. He said that Algeria cherishes the friendly and cooperative relations with China, and the people of Algeria will never forget China's staunch support for the country's just struggle for national independence and liberation. Algeria opposes to any interference in other countries' internal affairs and will continue to strongly support China on the issues regarding its core interests. Algeria is willing to work with China to promote the Belt and Road Initiative and deepen practical cooperation in various fields. Algeria is grateful for China's vaccine assistance and is ready to purchase vaccines from China to win the battle against the pandemic at an early date.
