China's first batch of vaccine assistance for Africa arrived in Malabo, capital of Equatorial Guinea, on Feb 10.
Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, vice-president of Equatorial Guinea, received the Chinese vaccines at the airport.
The vaccines boxes bore the logo “CHINA AID”, the national flags of China and Equatorial Guinea and a slogan in Chinese and Spanish saying brothers work together to fight against the pandemic.
On behalf of the country’s President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and the government, Mangue expressed sincere thanks for and highly appreciated China for the vaccine assistance at the handover ceremony at the airport.
The vaccines were transported to Equatorial Guinea as soon as possible as a result of the development of the traditionally friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, and the donation reflects China’s altruism and solidarity in its cooperation with Africa, said Mangue.
China-made vaccines are safe and effective, said Mangue, adding that he will be the first person to receive the doses as a demonstration for the public. He also wished the Chinese people a happy Chinese New Year.
Qi Mei, Chinese ambassador to Equatorial Guinea, said at the handover ceremony that China always honors its pledges. It decided in the shortest time to donate vaccines to Equatorial Guinea and rapidly implemented its commitment.
China sincerely hopes that the vaccines are strong supports for Equatorial Guinea to win the final victory over the pandemic, said Qi.
China will continue to provide assistance for the country’s fight against the pandemic and its economic and social development and hopes the two sides will strengthen their pragmatic cooperation in public health and other areas, promote their comprehensive cooperative relations on a new stage and combine efforts to build a closer China-Africa community with a shared future and a global community of health for all.
