CIDCA| Updated: 2021-03-01

A donation of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine from China arrived at the Cairo International Airport, Egypt, on Feb 23.

Egyptian Assistant Health Minister for Financial and Administrative Affairs Wael El Saaey and Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang welcomed the vaccine at the airport.

On behalf of the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population, El Saaey received the vaccine and expressed gratitude to China for the assistance.

Liao said China hopes to help Egypt overcome the pandemic at an early stage by providing the country with vaccines.

China has taken the lead in providing vaccine to and carrying out anti-pandemic cooperation with not only Egypt, but also other African countries and developing countries, and China will continue to do so firmly, said Liao.

China and Egypt held a vaccine handover ceremony and signed a certificate.

The vaccine will be distributed to vaccination centers across Egypt and will be administered to different groups of people.

Egypt had also received a shipment of China's COVID-19 vaccine from the United Arab Emirates and begun vaccination for healthcare workers.
