China-donated COVID-19 vaccines arrive in Mozambique

CIDCA| Updated: 2021-03-03

China-donated COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Maputo, capital of Mozambique, on Feb 24.

Mozambican Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario and Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique Wang Hejun received the vaccines and attended the handover ceremony at the Maputo International Airport.

Wang said that China and Mozambique have reached out to each other and worked together to fight against the pandemic since its outbreak. China attached great importance to Mozambique’s urgent need for vaccines and took quick action to provide them. Mozambique is one of the first African countries to receive the Chinese vaccines.

On behalf of Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi and the Mozambican government and people, Rosario said that the vaccines’ arrival marks a historic moment for Mozambique and the country appreciates the kind deed of the Chinese government and people.

The long-standing friendship between China and Mozambique remains unshakable and becomes even firmer as time goes by, said Rosario.

The donation is a result of the consensus reached by the two heads of state on China-Mozambique anti-pandemic cooperation, and fully reflects that the two leaders attach great importance to their people’s safety and health, he said.

President Nyusi appreciated China’s donation on social media.
