Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio held a ceremony to officially receive China-donated vaccine from Chinese Ambassador Zhang Liang on March 1 at the State House. The country's Vice-President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and some of its cabinet ministers also attended the ceremony.

On behalf of the Sierra Leonean government and people, President Bio expressed sincere gratitude to the Chinese government and people.

President Bio said that a friend in need is a friend indeed. After the outbreak of COVID-19, China took the lead in extending a helping hand and providing Sierra Leone with all kinds of anti-pandemic supplies. China is also the first country to donate vaccines to Sierra Leone. All these demonstrated the profound friendship between the two countries, said President Bio.

Sierra Leonean Foreign Minister Nabeela Farida Tunis said that China's vaccine assistance to his country is a practical way to implement the Sierra Leone-China consensus on deepening cooperation and enhancing their bilateral friendship.
