At Laos' request, the Chinese government helped Laos to carry out the lighting system project which included upgrading the fountain of the Patuxay Monument Park and the lighting system of seven major streets in downtown Vientiane, and lighting more than 30 villages near the downtown area.
The Patuxay Monument Park is a popular attraction in the center of Vientiane. The Lao Prime Minister's Office and government agencies are also located in the area. In 2004, China assisted Laos to build the fountain system at the park, which has become a beautiful local landscape.
The renovation project was carried out amid the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. China overcame the difficulties of completing it in a timely and efficient manner after six months of urgent construction, ensuring both quality and quantity. It greatly contributed to the Lao economic and social development and recovery after the pandemic, and became another symbol of the traditional friendship between China and Laos.
Patuxay Monument Park has become a perfect place for Lao people and tourists to relax and be entertained.
On Feb 25, the project of renovating the lighting system of seven major streets in Vientiane's downtown area and lighting more than 30 villages near the downtown area was officially completed. It now enables Lao people and tourists to go out at night and effectively promotes Lao social and economic recovery and development.
