A shipment of China-donated COVID-19 vaccine to Syria arrived in Damascus, the country's capital, on April 24. The inactivated vaccine was developed and produced by Sinopharm.
At the vaccine handover ceremony held at the airport, Chinese Ambassador to Syria Feng Biao said that the batch of vaccine carries the affections of the Chinese people and government towards Syria, writes a new chapter in China-Syria anti-epidemic cooperation, and is a concrete action of China to fulfill its solemn commitment to make the country's vaccine a global public good.
Syrian Health Minister Hasan al-Ghabash expressed gratitude for China's assistance. He said that Sinopharm's vaccine has been tested globally and proved to be safe and effective. The donation will help guarantee Syria's vaccination process for its people.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Syria, China has provided several batches of anti-pandemic materials to Syria and organized in-depth exchanges between experts from both countries on COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment via video link.
