The second batch of COVID-19 vaccines donated by China to Gabon arrived in Libreville, the Gabonese capital, on May 9.
Chinese Ambassador to Gabon Hu Changchun, Gabonese Foreign Minister Pacome Moubelet-Boubeya and Gabonese Minister of Health Guy Patrick Obiang Ndong attended the vaccine handover ceremony at the local airport.
Hu said that the virus is the common enemy of mankind, and that unity and cooperation is a powerful weapon to defeat it. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, China has firmly supported Gabon in fighting the epidemic, taking the lead in providing vaccines and medical supplies to Gabon and sharing its anti-pandemic experience without hesitation.
The arrival of the vaccine in Gabon is another important measure taken by China to honor its commitment to make COVID-19 vaccines a global public good, and to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state on fighting the pandemic together. It is also a concrete manifestation of the high-level cooperation and profound friendship between China and Gabon, said Hu.
China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Gabon to overcome the pandemic at an early date and jointly build a global community of health for all, he added.
Obiang expressed his sincere thanks to China for once again providing vaccine donation to Gabon. Since the beginning of the pandemic, China has taken the lead in providing Gabon with protective equipment and testing reagents.
At present, vaccines are scarce products in the world. China's donation to Gabon demonstrates the deep traditional friendship between the two countries and will help Gabon push forward its national vaccination plan, said Obiang.
Obiang congratulated China on its vaccine being certified by the World Health Organization. He said that the Chinese vaccine has been very effective for the Gabonese people and Gabon has always been full of confidence in the Chinese vaccine.
