China-donated COVID-19 vaccine arrived at the international airport in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, on May 29.
Ecuador's Vice-President Alfredo Borrero, Foreign Affairs Minister Manuel Mejia, and Public Health Minister Ximena Garzon as well as Chinese Ambassador to Ecuador Chen Guoyou received the vaccine at the airport. Chen and Garzon signed the handover certificate of the vaccine donated by China to Ecuador.
Chen said in his speech that China has taken the initiative to donate vaccines to Ecuador despite the huge Chinese demand, limited production capacity and tight supply in the international market, and prioritized ensuring the timely arrival of the vaccines procured by Ecuador, which reflects China's positive efforts to build a global community of health for all and presents a vivid picture of the two countries standing by each other and overcoming the difficulties together.
China is glad to see more and more Chinese vaccines arriving in Ecuador to help Ecuador prevent and overcome the pandemic, restart its economy, create jobs and improve people's livelihoods.
On behalf of President Lenin Moreno and the Ecuadorian government, Borrero expressed his heartfelt thanks to China for the donation and the timely arrival of the vaccines, and said that it was a special day for cooperation between Ecuador and China in fighting the pandemic. Ecuador is willing to take the cooperation on vaccines as an opportunity to promote the traditional friendly relations between the two countries and looks forward to more progress in practical cooperation in various fields such as vaccines.
