Zhang Maoyu, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), attended the celebration of World Youth Skills Day held by the Sri Lankan Embassy in China and delivered a speech on July 15.
Through foreign assistance and international development cooperation, the Chinese government is committed to helping relevant countries strengthen skill training for young people and helping them acquire the necessary skills for employment and entrepreneurship, so as to promote equal, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, Zhang said.
At present, with the COVID-19 pandemic still rampant across the globe, China has made efforts to overcome its adverse impact on international travel and logistics and to enhance skill training for young people in relevant countries online, he said, noting that China is also striving to help other developing countries cope with the spillover effects of the pandemic and protect young people's rights to life and development.
He stressed that China will continue to deepen international collaboration in the fight against COVID-19 and help developing countries overcome the pandemic at an early date. It will continue to focus on people's well-being and promote global economic and social recovery and development. It will also continue to adhere to multilateralism, strengthen international cooperation in youth skills, contribute to the realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, and push forward the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
World Youth Skills Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 to celebrate the strategic significance of providing young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurial opportunity.
