Zhou Liujun, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), held a videoconference with Naomi Biribo, secretary to Kiribati's cabinet, on Aug 3.
Zhou said that since the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Kiribati more than a year ago, friendly relations between the two countries have entered a new stage.
Overcoming difficulties such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides actively implemented the outcomes of the meetings and calls between the two heads of state, jointly promoted cooperation projects and fought the pandemic, said Zhou, adding that the practical cooperation has achieved remarkable results in various fields.
He said that China is willing to strengthen communication with Kiribati and continue to carry out in-depth cooperation in the field of development, so as to further benefit the two countries and their people.
Biribo expressed her heartfelt gratitude to China for its support for the economic and social development of Kiribati, and highly appreciated the achievements of cooperation in various fields since the resumption of the two sides' diplomatic relations, as well as China's efforts to help other countries achieve sustainable development by sharing experiences and resources.
She said that Kiribati attaches importance to the partnership with China and is willing to continue to work closely with it to jointly promote the agreed projects and take the two countries' friendly relations to a new level.
The two sides also exchanged views on specific cooperation projects.
