A 2017 survey by the World Health Organization suggested that over 12.8 million Syrian people were in urgent need of medical assistance.
In a program under the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund, the Chinese government has purchased and distributed medications for surgeries and carried out necessary training to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Syria. With this aid, more than 40,000 times of trauma care were provided to meet the urgent medical needs of people in Syria. This program has also reinstated the country's damaged basic medical facilities.
Mohammed is a 10-year-old boy who lives in a village in Syria's Al Hasakah province. His right leg was seriously wounded by shelling and had to be amputated. With Chinese assistance, he was able to get a prosthesis and receive physical therapy and can now walk normally. He's just one of thousands of beneficiaries of this program in Syria.
