CIDCA vice-chairman attends handover ceremony for COVID-19 vaccine and anti-pandemic supplies donated by China to Myanmar

A ceremony marking the handover of COVID-19 vaccines and anti-pandemic supplies donated by China to Myanmar was held on Sept 3, 2021. Deng Boqing, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, attended the ceremony via video link and delivered a speech.

Deng said China and Myanmar, connected by mountains and rivers, are good neighbors and partners. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the two countries have been supporting each other in the fight against the pandemic. He expressed his hope that China’s aid will help Myanmar reinforce its anti-pandemic shield and defeat the virus in the near future. China, sticking to the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, will continue its cooperation with the international community, including Myanmar and other countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), provide assistance within its capacity for anti-pandemic work and the restoration of socioeconomic development, and jointly build a better future for mankind, he said.

Myanmar's Minister of Health Thet Khaing Win and Secretary-General of ASEAN Lin Yuhui thanked the Chinese government for its generous assistance in combating the pandemic and expressed willingness to further cooperate with China in the fight against the pandemic for the well-being of the Burmese people.  

The handover ceremony was hosted by the Yunnan provincial government. Li Malin, vice-governor of Yunnan, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Other attendees included diplomats and health officials from both countries.
