Celebrating 100th anniversary of CPC | Jamaican nurses reap benefits from training program in China

CIDCA| Updated: 2021-09-09

Editor's Note: To celebrate the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) this July, China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) has selected 100 representative stories of the country's foreign aid to support the development of other developing nations over the past years. This episode tells the stories of a group of Jamaican ICU nurses who attended and benefited greatly from a Chinese government-sponsored training program in 2018.

At the request of Jamaica's Ministry of Health and Wellness, the Chinese government organized a special training program for its nurses working in intensive care unit (ICU) wards in 2018.

The 60-day training program, which attracted the attendance of 23 ICU nurses from several major medical institutes in Jamaica, was designed to better improve the vocational competence of the Caribbean country's medical workers and to further strengthen bilateral exchanges on healthcare.

Miss Joanna, an experienced ICU nurse, was a leader of the Jamaican delegation.

During the training program in China, Joanna often told other trainees to show the highest respect to their Chinese counterparts, who can offer them valuable clinical skills and experience.

In addition, Joanna earnestly learned from Chinese nurses about all procedures related to the nursing of patients in severe or critical condition, nursed her patients wholeheartedly, and actively conducted exchanges with her Chinese peers on the nursing care experience.

"I am really grateful for the efforts made by the Chinese government in the organization of the training program and I have benefited greatly from it. I will bring back home my professional experience gained in China and provide my future patients with high-quality nursing service. I am deeply proud of my studying experience in China," said Joanna in an interview.
