Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), delivered a speech at the Sustainable Development Forum 2021 held in Beijing on Sept 27.
Luo noted that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has strengthened cooperation in five areas including policy coordination, connectivity of infrastructure, unimpeded trade, financial integration and closer people-to-people ties, which tallies with 17 specific objectives in the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and will promote closer interaction and produce momentum for common development.
China has attached great importance to the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, put an end to absolute poverty in the country, performed well in both COVID-19 prevention and control and economic recovery, formulated the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) and the long-range objectives through the year 2035, ratified the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement, and submitted an application to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The BRI has promoted global economic prosperity and will boost the volume of global trade by 6.2 percent and increase global income by 2.9 percent, injecting strong momentum in the advancement of sustainable development.
Moreover, the initiative has laid a solid foundation for sustainable development by improving the wellbeing of people in various countries.
