Zhang Maoyu, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), signed a cooperation agreement with the UN World Food Programme (WFP) on an emergency food assistance program for Timor-Leste.
According to the agreement, the Chinese government will cooperate with the WFP and use the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund to support malnourished pregnant and lactating women in Timor-Leste who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and flooding by providing nutritional cereal powder to them across all 13 provinces in the country.
At the UN Development Summit in 2015, China declared to establish the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund. To date, the fund has worked with over 10 international organizations and sponsored over 100 livelihood projects in over 50 countries, benefiting over 20 million people.
