CIDCA chairman meets with UNDP resident representative in China

Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Beate Trankmann, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)'s resident representative in China, on Nov 17.

Xu Wei, director-general of the CIDCA's Department of International Cooperation, and Jiang Na, acting director-general of the CIDCA's Department of General Affairs, also attended the meeting.

Luo spoke about the 71-year history and historical experiences of China's foreign aid, saying that both the CIDCA and the UNDP are promoting international development cooperation and are committed to making the world a better place.

The UNDP is responsible for the operation of the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund (SSCAF) and has so far cooperated with more than 10 international organizations to implement over 100 livelihood projects in more than 50 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America, benefiting more than 20 million people in developing countries. China and the UNDP have carried out 12 practical cooperation projects in 15 countries since 2016 with good results, Luo said.

The CIDCA is willing to work with the UNDP to make use of their respective advantages to jointly promote global development cooperation to strengthen practical cooperation in areas such as the SSCAF, the rural vitalization in China, and policy dialogue and exchanges, which is also part of the implementation of the Global Development Initiative proposed by China, Luo said.

Trankmann said the UNDP is willing to actively participate in the Global Development Initiative. China's achievements in poverty reduction have attracted the world's attention, and the Chinese solution and Chinese way have provided new options for other developing countries, Trankmann added.

The CIDCA actively promotes South-South cooperation and triangular cooperation, and is an important global partner of the UNDP, Trankmann said, adding that UNDP China is willing to continue to deepen its cooperation with the agency, share China's development experiences in more countries, and coordinate with relevant UN agencies to help vitalize China's countryside and promote common prosperity.
