Celebrating 100th anniversary of CPC | Chinese medical experts help Barbadians walk again

CIDCA| Updated: 2021-12-06

Barbados has a humid climate and a high rate of obesity. Therefore, people there have a high incidence of knee osteoarthritis.

The quality of medical care there is not enough to treat patients suffering from severe joint lesions with joint replacement surgery. The patients' quality of life is seriously affected.

The arrival of a Chinese medical team has brought hope to these patients.

Anita has lived with severe bilateral knee osteoarthritis for a long time. She is almost unable to walk or sleep due to the pain, and even large amounts of painkillers only gave her relief for a few hours at a time. The disease has also left her unemployed for many years. She lived a hard life until a fifth team of Chinese medical experts learned about her health problems and made a detailed plan to treat her.

Li Ruidong, an orthopedic surgeon from the team, examined Anita's joints, ligaments, and muscle groups. Ran Jun, another team member who specializes in traditional Chinese medicine, formulated a personalized acupuncture treatment plan for her.

After the medical team's treatment, Anita's knee pain gradually disappeared and her joint movement was restored.

There are still many patients like Anita in Barbados. The Chinese medical team will continue to bring the advantages of combining Chinese and Western medicine to more patients with osteoarthritis.
