A handover ceremony was held in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan, on Dec 14, 2021 to mark the arrival of the third and fourth shipments of COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Chinese government.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Du Dewen said people from both countries have worked together with solidarity and offered mutual assistance since the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020.
China is the first country to provide medical assistance to Kyrgyzstan in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and the traditional friendship between China and Kyrgyzstan has been constantly strengthened in anti-pandemic cooperation, Du said. China has donated 1.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in two more batches to Kyrgyzstan in a move to help the country get the contagious disease under control at an early date, she said, adding that she hopes and believes the latest vaccines will play a positive role in Kyrgyzstan's response to the pandemic, safeguarding the lives of the Kyrgyz people and improving their wellbeing.
Du said that China has earned great recognition and acclaim from the international community for its commitment to making COVID-19 vaccines a global public good and ensuring the accessibility and affordability of vaccines in developing economies.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Edil Baisalov, on behalf of the Kyrgyz government, expressed thanks to China for its donation of more COVID-19 vaccines, and emphasized that since the beginning of the pandemic, China has been providing medical assistance to Kyrgyzstan and has made great contributions to the country's anti-pandemic fight.
Baisalov spoke highly of China's successful experience in fighting the pandemic and commended the Chinese people's united and heroic fight against the contagious virus. He added that his country is willing to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with China to jointly fight the pandemic.
Du and Kyrgyz Minister of Health and Social Development Alymkadyr Beishenaliev signed certificates for the handover of the vaccines and attended an interview on bilateral anti-pandemic cooperation.
