Zhang Maoyu, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Justine Coulson, the resident representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in China, on Dec 21.
Coulson appreciated China's great attention to South-South cooperation and its support for the UNFPA.
She said the UNFPA and the CIDCA have cooperated closely under the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund, providing significant health assistance for women and children in many developing countries, with good results achieved.
The Global Development Initiative proposed by China shared key points with the UNFPA and the UNFPA is willing to strengthen exchanges with the CIDCA on them.
Zhang said that the UNFPA is committed to capacity building in the areas of population and development and has done profound work on achieving equal rights of women and children and improving people's health.
The CIDCA is willing to strengthen practical cooperation with the UNFPA, promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, work jointly on South-South cooperation in the field of global population and development, help other developing countries fight the COVID-19 pandemic and recover economically, and achieve the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
