Uganda received the third shipment of 600,000 doses of China-donated COVID-19 vaccines on Dec 20, 2021.
The vaccines came at a time when the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was wreaking havoc around the globe.
China announced, at the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) on Nov 29, 2021, that the country will provide another 1 billion doses of vaccines to Africa, including 600 million doses as donation, to help the African Union achieve its goal of vaccinating 60 percent of the African population by 2022.
The latest batch of China-donated vaccines to Uganda demonstrates the firm resolve of the two countries to implement the outcomes of the Dakar Summit of the FOCAC and build a China-Uganda community of common health with a shared future.
So far, the Chinese government has donated 1.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the African country.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, China and Uganda have always supported each other and shared weal and woe, which vividly illustrated their brotherhood and wrote a new chapter in bilateral relations.
China has always supported and will continue to fully support Uganda and other African countries in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, ensure the fair and equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines as well as their accessibility and affordability in Africa in a move to close the immunization gap, and make joint efforts for the final victory in the anti-pandemic battle.
